designing a kid-friendly
dental experience
In collaboration with Pediatric Dental Specialists of West Michigan, AMDG designed a space that invites children into a world of playful comfort. This project combined the expertise of Kathryn Chaplow Interior Design and First Companies to create a welcoming, “up-north” environment inspired by Michigan’s natural beauty.
The dental clinic prioritizes a kid-friendly experience, with a vibrant reception area featuring log cabin play spaces, bright blue walls, and interactive toys to ease anxiety. Beyond the cheerful welcome, the clinic is outfitted with six treatment rooms, hygienist workspaces, a sterilization room, private consultation and recovery spaces, and staff amenities. The design expertly balances the playful with the practical, creating a space that is as functional for the team as it is enjoyable for young patients.
With future scalability in mind, AMDG provided a phased design that allowed the client to manage initial costs while planning for future expansion. This thoughtful approach ensured long-term adaptability without compromising current needs.
The project’s success was driven by close collaboration. AMDG partnered with Kathryn Chaplow for interior finishes and Henry Schein Dental to seamlessly integrate clinical equipment. Throughout the design process, AMDG worked closely with First Companies to ensure that the design adhered to budget parameters. By merging playful elements with advanced functionality, the team crafted a space that supports the clinic’s mission: fostering smiles and comfort for every young visitor.
