an elevated stadium experience
Desiring a richer community experience, Grand Rapids Christian Schools sought to expand and upgrade their existing football stadium (which was originally designed with AMDG a decade prior). Through upfront master planning, the design team helped the school further define their vision for the cutting-edge athletic stadium design that would serve to elevate the game-day experience.
Improvements were made to elevate Eagles Stadium to a high-quality athletic facility including upgraded lighting, expanded locker rooms, modernized track and turf, and improved concessions. The project also introduced administrative offices and alumni amenities, enriching both sporting events and school gatherings. The stadium now offers a space that encourages community connection, school pride, and collaborative engagement.
The project faced strict zoning requirements, parking constraints, and significant elevation changes. AMDG’s solution was to design a lightweight structure over an existing building, navigating these challenges while maintaining design integrity.
In addition, construction had to fit a tight nine-month schedule between athletic seasons, a challenge that the project team met with precise coordination and focus.
A challenging vertical drop at Eagles Stadium was transformed into a tiered community plaza, enhancing views and increasing seating capacity beyond the bleacher seating. This innovative design turned the site’s natural slope into a feature that draws spectators closer to the action while fostering a sense of connection.
This project began with a comprehensive athletic master plan, evolving over a decade into a facility that aligns with the school’s mission. Eagles Stadium not only supports athletic excellence but also strengthens the school’s identity. It is a gathering place for students, alumni, and the community, fostering school spirit.
