designing for higher education
Revitalizing a 1950s style building on the campus of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois, AMDG helped to transform the space into a state-of-the-art facility for the college’s new nursing program. The 4,800-square-foot renovation included the creation of a modern nursing lab, patient simulation lab, a flexible classroom, a student lounge, and administrative offices. Adaptive learning spaces and innovative simulation labs foster collaboration and support practical training through hands-on learning, ensuring the nursing program is positioned to meet the evolving needs of healthcare education. and preparing students for the demands of a nursing career.
The renovation posed architectural and logistical challenges, requiring the team to reimagine the building’s outdated layout. The new design focused on opening up the heavy structure and creating an inviting and uplifting feel to the space, encouraging focus and well-being among students and faculty.
The duration of the project took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which added complexities related to material sourcing and working within a closed campus. AMDG and Knudsen Construction collaborated regularly to ensure the project stayed on track and within the project budget.
Trinity Christian College sought to brand its new nursing program with a fresh and innovative space for hands-on learning and student / faculty collaboration. AMDG’s design team helped achieve this by creating a space that exudes professionalism and helps attract top-tier students. The approachable and inviting space inspires students and supports the college in its work to provide a leading-edge education program. The renovated higher education space aligns with Trinity’s mission and provides an optimal learning environment for equipping the next generation of healthcare professionals.
